ABOUT OUR APPROACH TO CUSTOM BIKE BUILDS
Your dream bike isn’t necessarily going to break the bank. For many people it ends up being a sensible choice of components, on a frame that fits perfectly, in the colour you love with bar tape and bottle cages to match.
This would start the same way one purchases any bike. Deciding what you want to use the bike for, what the experience should be. This will help to inform us on the type of frame to start with, the range of gearing and the tire size to go along with it. From here we move into a bike fit to determine the dimensions of your body, flexibility, injury history, and what size in all our fame options would fit you the best. We charge $150 for this initial fit and that price is taken off the final price of your bike, so you don’t pay for the fit if you purchase a bike from us.
The final step is to walk through what frame, parts, and wheels you want for your new bike. Something we are well equipped to help you with. This discussion and build out isn’t necessarily about weight of parts or compatibility, leave that to us. The discussion is more about features that you might like, functionality of shifting, range of gearing for the riding you do or the tire tread to match your favorite routes.
Now that we know what we are going to build and how our mechanics are going to set it up we order your frame, parts, and wheels. At this time, we take a 66% deposit. A lead time for getting everything is presented to you with our best estimate. Sometimes this is easy and quick. We might know everything is in stock at our distributors and we can have everything in 10-14 days. Sometimes this wait is 2-3 months if we are having a custom frame built or a new groupset coming to market.
When everything arrives, our mechanics build the new bike and set it up with the fit dimension we decided on in the initial bike fit. When it’s ready to ride we contact you to set up your follow up on-bike fit.
When it’s time to pick up your bike we schedule with you a 30–45-minute block to finalize your position on the bike in store. We will explain all the features of your bike that may not have come up in the build out. This can include charging of your electronic shifting, disc brakes and their use, or any apps that connect to your new bike.
We settle the bill, you take your bike home, and go riding.
