The TCR Master's Cycling Team

Our new venture designed for cycling enthusiasts! Our goal is to start a grass roots cycling team with the focus of skill development and introduction to racing. This team is open to men and women!

Road Cycling and Triathlon have continually grown over the past 10 years. Much of this growth is in the Masters (30 years +) age groups. However, unlike other sports, there has been little to promote and practice the skills of Road Riding and Racing. Most of the experienced riders and racers in Calgary have learned to ride well and via trial and error. Many of these riders have learned their skills by getting "barked at" on rides or through the experience of riding thousands of miles. There is a better and more fun way to do this!

Group riding and skill-focused practices will be a part of our team. We will practice the efficiency of peloton riding, skills of bike handling and tactics for racing at our team rides.

Our 2010 Objectives include:

  • A Team dedicated to teaching cyclists how to become better riders and how to start racing at a Masters level. Open to men and women.
  • Experienced Coaches from TCR and the H & R Block Cycling Team
  • Weekday practices with TCR Coaches and H&R Block Team members. These are COACHED sessions and not a "meet and hammer ride." H&R Block is Western Canada's Premier Racing Team and Partner with TCR. These coached practices will include:
    • Learning / Practicing to Corner and Draft
    • Learning / Practicing to Climb and Corner
    • Learning to Group Ride and Criterium Race
  • "Big" Group rides are scheduled once per month for all members to attend. A minimum of 2 groups will be set-up with designated captains.
  • Monthly Calendar of events including social gatherings (see below)
  • TCR Team Kit (Shorts and Jersey)
  • Preferred Pricing on new Colnago and Guru Bikes
  • 15% discount on services
  • All scheduled practices and group rides

2010 Team Fees:

Cost with TCR Team Kit - $300 + GST.

Cancervive

TCR Sport Lab has been a proud supporter of Cancervive over the last 4 years.  In 2009, we raised over $14,000 for Cancervive which support those living with and surviving beyond cancer.

Who is Cancervive?
TCRsportlab_cancervive The Cancervive Foundation of Alberta (www.cancervive.ca) is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness and support for Canadian Cancer Survivors and their families. Completely volunteer based, one hundred percent (100%) of all donated funds are directed to our benefactor and partner - Wellspring Calgary (www.wellspringcalgary.ca).

Wellspring Calgary
Cancervive has a partnership established with Wellspring Calgary. A community-based center, Wellspring provides a wide range of cancer support programs and services to serve the emotional, social, and informational needs of people living with Cancer, and those who care for them. Wellspring programs are provided at no cost to the user.

Cancervive-Try this Tri
Hats off to everyone who is ready for Cancervive - Try This Tri on May 23rd!
Go everyone - ROAR!!

Janet’s Legacy
In 2008, one of TCR’s founding partners, Janet Lattimer-Skeith passed away at 50 yrs from Pancreatic Cancer.  Janet was a partner in TCR and was instrumental in getting us off the ground.  She was a believer in our vision to start a company that was unique in the fitness and health industry.  During her battle with cancer, Janet used the services of Wellspring to help cope with and battle the disease.   She is always in our thoughts and still inspires us to continue pursuing our passions.  Each year, we participate and help organize fundraising events to raise money for her legacy and Cancervive.
